Hell of the Ashdown
Hell of the Ashdown
Don’t dwell on the name – a ride is only as hellish as you make it, but this one happens to follow the route of the annual sportive with a terrifying name. And actually, the Ashdown Forest, though littered with tough inclines, is very pretty.
You’ll leave London and travel to Kent via Brasted – over the long, but not-too-steep Toy’s Hill to Four Elms, Cowden, and past Edenbridge – before you hit the forest, and come back via Chiddingstone, and over Ide Hill (much like Toy’s Hill – I rather love them both) – and back to London via Biggin Hill.
Without doubt a beautiful ride, making up 82 miles and just over 7,000 feet – see it here.
