Yoga for cyclists: the hips

Your key leg muscles need looking after, and yoga stretches are a big help.

Now we get to the legs. The muscles in the legs and hips are so strong but conversely get very very hacked off if not treated with some TLC. The repeated motion of cranking the pedals will tighten leg and hip muscles and eventually impact both the movement of the joint itself and your lower back. This section will look at hip flexors and how to create a bit of space in the hip joint.

Don’t feel pressured to get your head all the way to the floor

You guys need to stretch two main parts: the psoas which starts at the front of the joint and wraps around to join your back at T12; and your piriformas which to put it simply sits across each butt cheek.
