Commuting Accessories

First impressions: Thule 2013 racks and bags

Another bag in the Pack’n’Pedal range, this is designed with the Pack’n’Pedal tour rack and specifically aimed at commuters with a range of features to make their lives easier.

Thule have clearly thought about the kind of weather a cycle commuter is likely to face; no one wants to get their important papers or work clothes wet in a sudden shower – so the bag is made from a durable looing weather-proof material, and includes a rain cover.

Inside is roomy, and there’s a padded compartment for a small laptop or tablet. Compression straps on the outside will keep things secure if you’re not

High visibility is clearly of particular importance at this time of year, so the Commuter Pannier bad has built in reflective detailing.

Another thoughtful element is the smart bike light pocket. This has a translucent plastic cover, so you can pop your bike light in here rather than on your bike, and it’s with you at all time. This gets over the tricky issue of where to fit on your light bracket when you’ve got a pannier and rack on the back.

If you commute, the chances are you’ll be walking with your bag as well as cycling with it, and Thule have managed to make a bag that doesn’t look like a pannier bag when off the bike.

Thule’s patent pending attachment system means you don’t get the random bits sticking out that invariably cause bruised legs and hips, and the bag comes with a messenger bag strap.
