We’ve seen a great deal of contribution to the world of cycling from Bell Helmets, not just by means of their product, but by their efforts to support and nurture women’s participation through the Bell Joy Ride initiative.

We’ve had the all-new Sixer in our muddy paws and have been putting it through its paces this Spring, so how did we get on?

Bell has taken great effort to develop the Sixer to be the ultimate trail helmet, no fuss, not compromise and totally ‘boundary-breaking’.

To ensure this, they’ve constructed a sleeker fit which allows the helmet to sit closer to the head. Integrated MIPS technology has become quite the standard for many brands and when coupled with Bell’s Float Fit system, you can feel assured that your safety and comfort are paramount.

Goggle compatibility has been incorporated for convenience, completed with a strap gripper at the rear of the helmet, 4-position adjustable visor height and an integrated camera/light mount.

Although there are women’s Joy Ride colours of the Sixer available, this is a unisex model helmet with a total of 10 colourways to choose from.

Bell Sixer MIPS MTB Helmet: Verdict

Being no stranger to Bell Helmets, the Sixer arrived with a certain degree of expectation and thankfully, it didn’t fail to deliver.

With 26 vents surrounding the lid, it certainly knows how to breathe keeping your head cool and controlled with the 4 brow vents drawing the air in. It’s comfortable, easy to adjust and, quite honestly, after I started spinning, I didn’t have to think about it.

However, it’s significantly heavier than rival trail models on the market. At 410g, it’s not the lightest when compared to the 325g of the Specialized Ambush or 370g of the Giro Montara. For a similar price point and MIPS, I would have expected a lesser weight than what Bell has ended up with.

As for being ‘boundary-breaking’, I’m not convinced.
