Reviewed: Troy Lee Designs Women’s MTB Collection

With a new season for shredding comes new women’s riding collections and one to really stand out from the crowd is the new Troy Lee Designs women’s MTB range.

We’ve gotten our mitts on the latest Ruckus and Skyline collection for 2018 with the scepticism, because could anything from TLD really rival their awesome collection from last year? We endeavoured to find out…

Troy Lee Designs Women’s MTB Ruckus Collection

Bold and in your face, the Ruckus collection is your all-trail, all-mountain, all-adventure kit.

Available in hot orange, cool blue and tranquil teal, the Ruckus collection consists of a 3/4 length jersey and matching shorts. The jersey itself is constructed from a lightweight polyester mesh material which offers supreme airflow to keep your body cool.

A couple of things that stood out for me were the tailored women’s fit, whilst remaining loose, it cinched in at the waist and offers a fitting sleeve shape that didn’t leave the jersey feeling too baggy or unflattering. Once more, the neckline is comfortably low, which for me, is a Godsend because there’s nothing more irritating for me than having a high collar rub against my throat. Another popular feature for me was the zip stash pocket in the rear of the jersey which is perfect for keys and snacks!

Oh, and of course, there’s the brilliant orange which sets the trail ablaze with a ferocity alights your riding when you’re getting low and steezy.

Complimenting the Ruckus jersey is the all-new Ruckus shorts which offer durability and versatility for the rider.

Using the same materials and construction as the men’s Ruckus shorts, the women’s offer a slightly different cut and taper for a more feminine finish. Constructed from a quick-dry fabric with bi-stretch panels, these shorts have been designed to move with your body, even in the more aggressive of riding positions.

Silicone grippers on the waist hem keep these shorts fairly planted against your chamois and when coupled with the velcro adjustable waist tabs, you feel confident that they’re not going anywhere.

Zipped pockets offer more stashing options and the stretchy touch material across the backside offers greater anti-abrasion properties.

Troy Lee Designs Women’s MTB Skyline Collection

If you’re looking for more comfort and casual riding gear, then the Skyline collection is for you. Offering a sleek simplicity, you can expect an unrivalled marriage between performance and comfort with this range.

The first thing to really notice about the Skyline jersey is how wonderfully light it is. Soft cooling materials, a feminine fit and a mesh construction all work together seamlessly in this simpe performance-driven top.

A dropped hem in the rear provides coverage for the decents. Mesh panels help optimise airflow and the flat colour options finishes this kit off with a clean and simple aethestic, perfect if you’re one for mix ‘n’ matching your riding attire.

Available in four striking colours, you can find more information on the Skyline jersey here.

The Skyline shorts are perhaps my favourite from the whole collection. First of all, I love this slate grey colour because they go with everything. Secondly, they’re simple, they work and they’re not overloaded with features, fabrics and faff that take away from what good riding shorts ought to be.

With a velcro fly and popper closure, these shorts have two zipped pockets and adjustable tabs at the sides, there’s not a whole lot more you need. The fabric used is stretchy, it breathes well and the cut has been carefully considered for both the female form and riding positions.

Available in three complementary colours, more information on the TLD Skyline shorts can be found here.
