Could this be the one trail lid to rule them all?

The kit you wear, the bike you ride, the trails you shred, each element plays an integral role in how you feel on your bike. Confidence inspiring clothing and performance-driven equipment can have you feeling rad so it’s important to invest wisely, after all, mountain biking is no cheap sport and when it comes to protective gear, you definitely don’t want to skrimp.

Giro has been around for the best part of thirty years, having evolved and developed their vast range of riding gear to move with the times, always offering the latest technology in some of the most stylish of ways.

Find out why Giro is a TWC Champion brand

Over the years, we’ve been particularly fond of Giro’s mountain bike range and their understanding of our matchy-matchy desires. Last year at Eurobike, we saw their newest range of women’s road and mountain bike wear along with their accessories and all we can do for 2018, is apologise to our bank accounts. To kick off the year, we’ve been parading the trails in one of Giro’s most popular women’s trail lids.

Before we discuss the very obvious beauty of this helmet, let’s take a look at the technology underneath it…

The Montara helmet has been developed with a full-wrap in-mold polycarbonate, an Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) liner, roll-cage reinforcement and MIPS technology… basically, all the top-notch safety tech you could want for your noggin.

Using Roc Loc® Air fit system, the Montara has 16 vents to boost ventilation while allowing you to get a dialed fit. In addition to this helmet’s cooling power, it’s outfitted with a hydrophilic, anti-microbial brow pad that can absorb up to ten times its weight in sweat… mmm, lovely.

And now for the bonus bits, you didn’t realise you needed. The Giro Montara MIPS women’s MTB helmet has been carefully designed to have full goggle integration with strap grippers on the back of the helmet and a P.O.V. Plus™ visor that allows you to lift the visor and place your goggles underneath.

For the past two years, my go-to trail lid has been a Giro Montara and so I was pleased to see that there haven’t been any drastic changes to the latest model… after all, why try and fix what isn’t broken?

Despite all the super protective tech and additional features, the shape is fairly compact, comfortable and it breathes well. It’s actually quite difficult for me to fault this helmet’s design and performance.

Ok, so it is a little on the pricey side of the money spectrum with the latest 2018 models setting you back around £150. However, I can attest to the fact that this helmet is built to last, to protect and retain its integrity over many many miles of trail fun. If budget is a big factor for you, there are 2017 models still available and a more affordable price point.
