Sportful claim that this modern day classic has just got better. Now in its fifth iteration, we are looking forward to putting it through its paces.

In the meantime here are our first impressions:

• It is very compact. It packs away to the size of a clenched fist. You won’t even notice it in your jersey pocket.
• Weighing in at 65g, it is very light for a jacket that claims it is water and wind resistant.
• It claims to be self cleaning! Using a technology called Nanosphere, manufacturers say that dirt cannot adhere to this finely structured surface and that annoying stains caused by the likes of red wine will simply wipe away.
• The fit is not very feminine, but it has a dropped back and feels comfortable on.
