Review: Rapha Women’s Classic Wind Jacket

We have come to expect big things from Rapha. Does the Classic Wind Jacket step up to the mark?

Rapha’s attention to detail surprises me everytime I pop one of its products on. As a brand they seem to pay close attention to the small things that make a big difference.

In the case of the Classic Wind Jacket, it is durable storm proof cuffs, sealed seams at the shoulders, a super soft fleece chin guard at the top of the zip and an abundance of reflective detailing.

As you would expect from a Rapha product the fit is exceptional. The use of a flexible fabric means that the jacket sits neatly on the body, but is still flexible enough to allow for a comfortable ride, even when you are down on the drops.

I was a tiny bit sceptical as to whether it would be flexible enough to stretch over packed jersey pockets but thankfully it didn’t disappoint. Staying on pockets though, this jacket features just one zipped pocket. Unfortunately this pocket caused me a spot of annoyance. Maybe it is my big hands, but I could not get my hand into the pocket so it makes it a really pain in the backside to take anything out of it, especially on the move.

Weighing in at 150g, the jacket is light, it is not the most compact though so you will struggle to stash it away if your jersey pockets are a little on the small side. The jacket can be stuffed inside its pocket although I am not sure if this was an intentional move by the brand as there is no two-way zip.

Other features of the jacket include a dropped tail, and stitching in the tail to prevent the jacket from flapping in the wind. The tail also features a reflective Rapha logo and friction locks on the waistband which are easy enough to adjust while riding.

Available in two colourways in sizes XXS-XL.

VERDICT:

This jacket is perfect for chilly morning rides and light summer showers – it is water resistant but I wouldn’t recommend it for a torrential downpour.

PROS:

Very comfortable, an effective windblocker and an exceptional fit.

CONS:

I am not a fan of the small pocket and it is a little bulky when stashed in a jersey pocket.
