Road Cycling Clothing

First impressions: Hincapie 2013/14 women’s road cycle clothing

The first noticeable feature about the Arenberg Zero women’s jacket was the zip. As I went to do up the medium-sized jacket, I found that it had two zipper toggles, allowing the central full length zip to be undone from either the top or bottom, helping regulate your body temperature. It also has an internal storm flap, to help reduce wind penetrating the zip.

Available in any colour as-long-as-you-like-black, the panels used to construct the Arenberg Zero jacket are made from a variety of materials. At the front, on the arms and round the sides, a 4-way stretch wind repellant fabric is used. Admittedly, the arms did rustle against the body fabric, however I doubt this will be noticeable on the bike – we’ll report back on this in our full in-depth review.

The other fabric used is a ‘Super Roubaix’ material that features on the back panel. It’s incredibly stretchy, on the outside it feels like standard lycra, smooth and soft and on the inside it’s wonderfully comfortable brushed fleece. This is to keep you warm but also to allow for breathability, expelling built up heat.

Another feature used on some of the material is a HyperOptic Roubaix reflective treatment, found on the flat lock external seams and on the back of the collar. Essentially, any of the stitching on the photos above that looks white, when a light is shined on them, turns reflective – to aid visibility.

In terms of fit, this will be reported on further in the full length reviews, however it’s safe to say these are fitted jackets. Although flexible with 4-way stretch material, on first inspection the elbows seemed quite tight. The medium jacket sent through to test, was form fitting on our size 10 model.

Other features include, three generously wide back pockets, a single strip of Silicone gripper is used on the inside of the rear of the jacket to stop it from riding up your back. There are also elasticated cuffs and a high neckline to seal out the cold wind.

We’ve since had a chance to road test the Arenberg Zero jacket, find out our thoughts here.
