Labs on Tour: 65-year-old Woman and Her Dog Prepare to Cycle 5000 miles for Charity

A Suffolk woman and her dog are set to cycle Britain's coastline for charity.

Come March 2015, Maggie Scorer (65) and Oscar (7) will begin their cycle around the entire coast of the UK for charity. The two aim to raise £25,000 over a period of six months for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research and Stillborn & Neonatal Deaths.

At 4.3 stone, Oscar the dog will not only be a travel companion but part of the challenge. Maggie aims to ride 30 miles per day from her starting point in Aldeburgh in Suffolk.

“I am not 20 any more so I will take it easy, be careful and have regular days off to give my body a rest,” Maggie told EADT. “I’m trying to safeguard against injury and build up my muscles and stamina but not overdoing the training.”

A grandmother of eight, Maggie is no stranger to adventures. She’s previously sailed halfway around the world and cycled the Great Wall of China.

“Some people want to build a garden or sew a tapestry. I like to get out and meet people,” says Maggie. “Life is for living and I like to think this might be an inspiration to other people that just because you are over 60 you don’t have to stay at home and wait for the next visit from the grandchildren, as welcome and lovely as that may be.”
