Saddle company Selle Royal launch the first five of a super-limited edition collection of 25 gorgeous illustrated saddles, designed by some of the world’s best illustrators.
The aim of the initiative, called UP the project, is to raise awareness of important societal issues. The first series of five saddles, called ‘Love Today’, was launched to coincide with Valentine’s Day. The additional four series will celebrate International Women’s Day (8 March), Earth Day (22 April), Bike to Work Day (15 May) and Children’s Day (1 June).
The five themes were chosen in a vote by Selle Royal employees, selecting global issues that concerned and motivated them most.
Monica Savio of Selle Royal said: “We have always strived to be an ethical company and believe that cycling and art can be powerful forces for change in the world. The chosen themes reflect this, with the first being about overcoming adversity and coming together to strive for a fairer, less divided world.”
With just three of each of the striking designs being made, all signed by the artist, they won’t be available to buy.
Instead, Selle Royal is making one of each saddle available to the public via a social media competition. To be in with a chance of winning one, you should give an example of adversity in your life or how you overcame it, using the hashtags #sUPportproject #Lovetoday.
If you miss out on winning a saddle, don’t worry – one of each of the saddles will be included in a museum exhibit in Selle Royal’s home of Italy, and later touring to the UK.
