UCI Track World Championships Kick Off in Paris

Team GB hoping to win big at the Track World Championships 2015

Today marks the start of the Track World Championships in Paris, and there is no doubt that all eyes are on the British women to see if they can hold on to their stripes for another year.

Speaking to the BBC, Laura Trott expressed her desire to come back with gold from the championships. The 22-year-old double Olympic gold medallist will compete in the omnium and team pursuit.

“I’m pretty confident with the way my training has been going so I’m hoping for the best,” Trott told BBC Sport.

“You’ve got to set your stall out and have ambitious targets. I’d be happy to medal but my aim is to win two golds.”

In last year’s World Championships in Cali, Trott was part of a gold winning team pursuit and also bagged silver in the omnium. At the 2014 World Championships in Colombia, Trott won gold in the women’s team pursuit and also claimed a silver in the omnium.

Kicking off the action in Paris will be the opening rounds of the team sprint and team pursuit for men and women on Wednesday afternoon. Wednesday evening will also see the start of individual competition with the women’s points race. Three titles will be awarded on the first day – the men’s and women’s team sprint and the women’s points race.

Thursday will bring the conclusion to the team pursuit for both men and women, and medal finals for the men’s Keirin and scratch race, plus the women’s 500m time trial. On Friday, the men’s Omnium begins, as does the women’s sprint. Medal finals will be held for the men’s 1km time trial, the men’s points race and the women’s individual pursuit.

Four titles will be awarded on Saturday – the women’s Scratch race, women’s sprint, men’s individual pursuit and the men’s Omnium. The women’s Omnium will also begin, as will the men’s sprint.

The 2015 UCI Track World Championships conclude on Sunday with 4 titles awarded in the women’s Omnium, women’s Keirin, men’s sprint and the crowd-favourite, the men’s Madison.
