Armitstead Crashes After Finish of Women’s Tour Stage One

Disaster after triumph after the finish at Stage One

Current World Cup leader Lizzie Armitstead has been carried away in an ambulance following a triumphant finish at Stage One of the Women’s Tour.

The Boels Dolmans rider celebrated the win with her hands in the air, but the jubilation was followed by a squeal of brakes.

At this moment it looks like wind swept her to the left, into the path of a photographer or race official who was standing in their assigned position.

Editor Heather caught this video at the finish:

Armitstead remained in the ground for some time and was attended to by ambulance crew and doctors.

She has won the General Classification, Chain Reaction Sprint Jersey and Best British Rider, which was collected collected by all five of her team mates who looked subdued on the podium.

A statement will be released later on regarding the accident and we will publish a full race report soon and we wish Armitstead a quick recovery.
