One particular product at this year’s CES in Las Vegas has really caught the imagination of the cyclosphere – it’s a smart pedal created by a company called Connected Cycle (whose website is currently experiencing a lot of traffic).
The pedal not only provides Strava-like analytics about your ride, but also helps prevent bicycle theft. There’s GPS in-built, and when your bicycle is moved unexpectedly a notification is triggered on your phone. It also generates it’s power through your pedalling. Smart stuff.
What To Do When Your Bike Gets Stolen
Wired reports that the pedals are easy to install, but can only be removed by a “special coded key held by the owner”. TechCrunch have also posited the theory that the pedals could prove very useful for bike rental companies.
Now all we need is a version we can clip-in to!
What do you think? Would you buy smart pedals for your bicycle?
