It’s hard to believe that the penultimate round of the Enduro World Series has just been and gone, and only one more round remains of the 2014 series.
The action shifted to Canada, with the race part of the events at the legendary Crankworx festival in Whistler. There may have only been one day of racing, in contrast to the two or sometimes three days at other EWS rounds, but that didn’t mean that it was any less exciting, dramatic, challenging or surprising.
The trails around Whistler vary between some famous tracks, and other legendary trails that have been resurrected specifically for the EWS. The crowning glory is the stunning Top of the World trail, which formed part of the last timed stage of the day. With 5 timed stages in total, and 2,500m of vertical ascent, even with lift assistance on the final liaison stage it was a long and punishing day.
The main battle throughout the season has been been between Tracy Moseley, the reigning Enduro World Champion, and Anne Caroline Chausson. The battle continued in Whistler, with Chausson taking the lead on the majority of the stages. However, a puncture on the final stage dashed her hopes of a win and she finally placed 3rd.
Cecile Ravenel, who has held a number of podium spots over the season, took her first Enduro World Series win with a decisive 2 minute lead over Moseley in 2nd. For Moseley, that position was enough to maintain her overall lead on the season to date.
However, with Moseley only 50 points ahead of Chausson, there is everything still to play for. Make a date with your computer for the final round in Finale, Italy, on the 4th – 5th October as it’s going to be an exciting one.
