With women specific XC Trail geometry and 110mm travel, the new 2014 29er Rumour is designed for women who like technical terrain and singletrack trails. The suspension on this full suspension mountain bike is suitably tuneable and the X-Fusion RL air rear shock incorporates a lock-out should you want to switch temporarily to hardtail mode. The SR Suntour XCR 29 fork also has 110mm travel and lock-out plus lighter women specific springs.
The drive train on the Rumor is a mix of Shimano components, ranging from Alivio crankset to 9-speed Shimano Deore Shadow rear derailleur and direct mounted SLX front derailleur. Brakes are Tektro Draco 2 hydraulics with short reach levers and Light Wave rotors. Until you look closely or throw a leg over it – you really can’t tell the Rumour is female specific – nice work Specialized.
The same M5 hydroformed alloy frame is the backbone of the Rumour Expert and Rumour Comp, priced £3300 and £2200 respectively. The Expert has Fox Float Performance fork and SRAM X0 Type 2 and X7 gears with carbon SRAM fibre chainset and Custom Formula T1 S hydraulic brakes, whilst the Comp has SRAM X9/X7 gearing, Avid Elixir 5 R SL hydraulic brakes and RockShox Reba RL29 fork.
