Here’s our last round up of 2013 mountain bikes before the shops are overflowing with 2014 bling. Why not make the most of the annual price reductions and snag yourself a bargain?
At the £1500 price point you get the choice of a decent full susser or a lightweight hardtail – the world really is your oyster. No surprises when we state that the hardtails are going to be much lighter and more XC oriented but even the full suspension bikes are a treat to ride and don’t tip the scales much either.
Components in this price range are generally good quality and reliable, so expect a mixture of Shimano Deore and SLX with a smattering of XT Shadow. Fork and rear shock brands vary, as does the amount of travel, but it’s the tuning and adjustment features that are most important for female riders, especially lighter riders. Look out for air suspension which gives the most adjustment of pre-set weight.
Wheel size varies as much as any other price range, sometimes even within the same bike model, sensibly based on the frame size.
Whichever bike you opt for, now is a good time to get a great price!
