If you prefer the idea of spending NYE in the sunshine and can afford the airfare, Rio de Janeiro may well be top of your list. Those of you that have experienced Carnival in Rio will be all too aware of how well these guys know how to party.
Probably more suited for couples and friends than for families, the party starts at 8pm and goes on well past midnight. Grab yourself a spot along Copacabana Bay and dance your way into 2015 along to the live music featuring everything from to traditional Brazilian music to rock ‘n’ roll and pop.
At midnight a fantastic fireworks display goes off from barges out at sea creating the most gorgeous picture out over the sea.
Although not often thought of as a cycling city, Rio de Janeiro does boast over 450km of dedicated cycle lanes along its beaches and through the city all of which are perfect for exploring on New Year’s Day. Choose to cycle from Leblon to downtown, up to Christ the Redeemer (suitable for more experienced cyclists) or pedal all around the coast line for fabulous views and a truly memorable New Year’s Eve.
