First impressions: SealSkinz 2013 women’s waterproof cycle clothing

UK brand SealSkinz specialise in waterproof and windproof clothing that keeps your warm and dry in the saddle. They produce a whole host of products that concentrate on keeping your extremities protected from the elements; gloves, socks, hats, the works.

The hardworking technology used by SealSkinz was inspired by John Logie Baird – inventor of television – and an idea he put forward so he could indulge in his passion of the outdoors despite suffering with incredibly poor circulation.

Baird created a double layered sock, with the inner layer being made from cotton and treated with borax. Essentially the borax wicked moisture from the foot, keeping his feet warm, dry and comfortable, meaning he could go outside and enjoy the beautiful Scottish countryside he lived in – without being limited by his poor circulation.

Like John Logie Baird, one of the SealSkinz employees also suffered poor circulation and used the invention above developing it into the waterproof socks that SealSkinz are famous for today.

Since then, SealSkinz developed a range of products for bikers, mountaineers, explorers, skiers, runners – essentially anyone who enjoys the outdoors whatever the weather.

So, for those of you who don’t want to succumb to indoor training, revving away on a turbo trainer, take a look through our first impressions on SealSkinz women’s collection including gloves, socks, and overshoes.

With over 30 years of experience in extremity protection, we think it’s safe to say that SealSkinz will be able to protect your heads, hands and toes – no problem.

Oh and before you ask ‘Are SealSkinz products made from seals?’ the answer is no! The brand name was created many years ago to demonstrate the best protection qualities of a seal – 100% waterproof.
