I’ve got a small confession to make. I’ve been wearing the Le Col Ladies Sport Winter Bib Tights around the house, including an entire sitting of Frozen with a 9 year old. They are so cosy I just don’t want to take them off!
Aside from lounge wear, the Le Col Ladies Sport Winter Bibs Tights performed very well on the bike, and I’m a tough bib critic. My strict criteria for good bibs is a ‘neat’ fit in all areas- no exceptions. Lots of focus on the shoulder straps, including how and where they sit over the chest, with no bagginess on the front or back panels and of course, a comfortable chamois. These bib tights ticked all of these boxes. The price point is justified- a quality piece of technical kit for the cyclist who wants to put in the miles through the winter.
I’ve been wearing these a few weeks now. They not only look great but they really do fit me like a glove, with no over stretch after riding. There is nothing more disappointing than a garment losing its softness after a wash, but the Le Col ‘Roubaix’ material which is lightly fleece lined, stayed true after washing. This material is not only cosy on the inside, but really does cut out any chilly wind whilst zipping down lanes (or cols, should you be so lucky!).
The wide back makes for a super comfortable ride, keeping all the vitals warm and cosy- no opportunity for drafty gaps here. I was particularly impressed with the front panel. Some bibs cut you off under the flabby bit (we’ve all got it ladies), but these come up nice and high. The leg length is also spot on, and the ankle cuffs have good quality gripper tape to solve any potential rising issues. I can honestly say they stayed in place throughout long test rides. No hitching up or pulling down required whatsoever.
I’m not ‘anti-pink’ by any stretch of the imagination, but I’ll honestly say that I’m not a massive fan of the hot pink patches behind the knee, I think it makes the product look similar to a well known budget brand, which compared to the quality they certainly are not. But I do like the thick pink stitching of “Le Col” just above the bum- conversely making them look like a quality piece of kit. They do come in an all black design however, should pink not be your thing at all.
The chamois stitching is neat, and the pad comfortable. Le Col certainly haven’t overdone the pad, making you feel like an adult wearing a nappy- never a good feeling and an even worse look!
The Le Col Ladies Sports Winter Bib Tights have two small reflective strips on the back of the calves. A small nod to winter safety without going over the top. Clearly not to be relied upon as sole means of visibility, but the more reflective points on garms the better, I say.
Overall these are a good investment piece that will see you through the Winter and chilly spring days!
