Great things come in small packages, isn’t that how the saying goes?

When ASSOS set to work on creating the SJ.blitzFederShelljacket_evo7 the brief was to design an emergency protector whilst keeping size and weight to an absolute minimum – it’s safe to say they surpassed expectations! At just 96 grams for a medium size, the SJ.blitzFederShelljacket_evo7 is not only ultra-compact but it’s ASSOS’ lightest long sleeve jacket to date.

At first sight, I have to admit that I was rather sceptical with regards to how much protection the ASSOS SJ.blitzFederShelljacket_evo7 would offer, being so thin and lightweight, but I have since come to realise that this is possibly the best piece of cycling kit in my wardrobe. Designed to be used throughout spring, summer and fall, I took the ASSOS SJ.blitzFederShelljacket_evo7 into the winter months wearing it over my ASSOS HabuLaalalai jacket in sub-zero degrees; It made all the difference to my comfort and the ride as a whole.

Too cold to ride in the ASSOS HabuLaalalai jacket alone, the optimum temperature regulation of the SJ.blitzFederShelljacket_evo7 over the top ensured that I toasty from start to finish, so there wasn’t any waiting to ‘warm up’ malarkey.

Whilst the high collar and elasticated cuffs and waistband provide some extra protection from drafts, the over-sized vent panels under the arms and on the back add to the breathability of the jacket as well as helping to reduce the weight. ASSOS’ most breathable jacket, the SJ.blitzFederShelljacket_evo7, can be worn for long periods even at high intensity.

Ultra-light, ultra-compact, and ultra-versatile the SJ.blitzFederShelljacket_evo7 is designed to offer light protection in a variety of conditions, from wind and light rain to the chilly air, so it is the perfect jacket to carry with you whether you are racing, tackling the mountains or slipping out for a Sunday club ride.

A new fabric for ASSOS, the FoilD43, is water repellent and a natural windbreaker as a result of a no-membrane construction, making it extremely easy to stuff into your jersey pocket and pull out again ready for a quick descent or an unpredicted rain shower. Unlike many rain and wind protectors, the soft material of the SJ.blitzFederShelljacket_evo7 makes it virtually silent; finally, we can say goodbye to the noisy flapping we commonly associate with rainy days and windy descents.

It comes as no surprise that the jacket was a big hit last season and so, ASSOS plan to extend the range in the summer to include a sleeveless version. The sleeveless summer edition will be available in black and Galaxy pink from September, so watch this space.

The ASSOS SJ.blitzFederShelljacket_evo7 is available in black and fluorescent yellow, in sizes x.small to x.large here for £91.

In conclusion, ASSOS has proven that less really is more, good things do come in small packages, and pink is the new black!
