If you are looking to invest in a baselayer and have a little bit of money to spend then the Icebreaker Oasis Crewe cannot be recommended enough.
Over the past month I have put this top well and truly through its paces. From my morning commute to long weekend rides in both rain and shine, I have not taken this top off since it landed on my desk.
Icebreaker is one of the market leaders when it comes to Merino Wool products and I am happy to report that each year the brand continues to get better and better.
I have been wearing the Oasis Crewe for the past four years and this is my favourite in the range so far. The top is soft next to the skin and completely breathable. It is the perfect choice for mild conditions or as part of a layering system in the depths of winter.
Initially I thought the top would be restricted to cold weather only. I wore it on a London to Brighton spin in freezing conditions at the start of February and it was a lifesaver.
In complete contrast I wore the top on a 15 mile run in London in 18 degree heat and blazing sunshine. I was cursing myself as I set off for making such a poor gear choice but was pleasantly surprised that the top was totally breathable, efficiently wicked away sweat and kept me at a comfortable temperature throughout. And most importantly I still felt fresh enough for a post run cup of tea sitting out in the sun.
With regard to fit, I am a UK 10 and opted for a medium. The top is nice and long (perfect length even when you are on the drops) making it ideal for the bike, sleeve length is also generous. The baselayer is available in a number of colours, patterns and including this half zip version and a crewe neck version.
VERDICT:
This top is worth every penny.
PROS:
Suitable for both cold and warm weather conditions this top performs incredibly. It is breathable, wicks away sweat efficiently and most importantly incredibly comfortable to wear.
CONS:
None – I honestly cannot think of a single one.
