A group of bicycle riding ballerinas will be performing in a selection of locations in Dulwich, London this weekend. The performance is free to watch and the audience will ride between sets.
‘Blazing Saddles’ is a celebration of women, cycling and fashion – it will be performed by a cast of female cyclists and professional performers. The show has been commissioned by Southwark Council and funded by Arts Council England.
As well as providing a beautiful visual display, the performance will explore some of the reasons why women do and don’t ride bikes today, contrasting this to the 1890s. The aim is to transform the way people think about cycling.
What to expect
The show includes several short sequences, at locations around Dulwich in London. There will be rides in between – and a 20 minute ‘performative picnic’ break on route. Riders can bring their own food and drink, or enjoy the local cafes and bars around Goose Green.
The show begins in Dulwich Park at 2pm, then heads off to Dulwich Library, North Cross Rd Market, Goose Green, Railton Rd near Herne Hill Station, Dulwich Picture Gallery Garden & returning back to Dulwich Park West Lawn, at approx 4pm.
Alternatively, you can join the procession to the start of the show. A group of riders will meet at 1.45pm on the West Lawn Dulwich Park, SE21 7BQ, in front of Pavilion Cafe.
