Finding women’s specific bike shoes for mountain biking if you like to ride without clipping in has always been a pain. If you have a shoe size of UK6 and above, you can often pick from the men’s/unisex options out there, but they can have quite a wide fit. However, if you are smaller of foot, you have an extremely limited choice.
Things look set to change with both Five Ten, the long established doyens of flat pedal MTB shoes, and Specialized both releasing women’s specific MTB shoes for 2015.
Five Ten Women’s Freerider
New for 2015, the women’s version of the super-popular freerider flat pedal MTB shoe will have smaller sizes available, starting at a US size 4 and going up to a US 10. There are a few other women’s specific design elements, including a narrower heel fit. This shoe joins the other women’s flat pedal mountain bike shoe Five Ten produce; the Karver. Prices are currently only in dollars and come up at $110 for the canvas version, and $100 for the standard version.

The inner ankle area of the shoe is raised slightly for protection from the chain and cranks, and there’s a little loop thingy for keeping your laces out of the way.
