After the recent announcements of the CTC and the Wiggle women’s racing teams, another joined the fray at the weekend with the launch at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Edinburgh on Saturday of the Breast Cancer Care cycling team.

The squad includes top track rider and multiple Paralympic gold medallist Dame Sarah Storey.

The team will kick off the season in Belgium with the Omloop het Nieuwsblad followed by Le Samyn then Gent Wevelgem before continuing the season with the UK National Women’s series.

However, Dame Sarah won’t be among the squad at the beginning of the season as she is expecting her first child with husband Barney. Baby Storey is due in June, so until then, she will be cheering her team-mates on from the sidelines.

“I am so proud to be a part of this team," says Storey. “We had an incredible season last year and I was so fortunate to have these amazing girls right behind me as I prepared for London 2012.

“I am looking forward to cheering these fantastic girls from the sidelines and will be itching to get racing with them again after baby Storey is born.

“Thanks to everyone for their support in 2012 I couldn't have done it without you."
