First impressions: Dakine 2014 women’s MTB cycle clothing

The first thing that struck us was the fabric with these shorts; it looks like denim, and that’s something we’ve not really encountered in MTB kit before.

Of course, it isn’t denim. It’s lighter weight, with a slight stretch to it, and it does feel like it could handle an amount of rough treatment. A further stretch fabric around the lower back increases the ‘give’ in these shorts.

Lining around the inside of the knees should ward off damage caused by kneepads, and zipped mesh-lined vents on the inside of the thigh will provide airflow when things get toasty.

There are pockets galore; 7in fact, and 3 of them are zipped so there should be plenty of room for storing stuff. A wide waistband with belt hoops and a double popper fastening looks like it’ll keep the shorts firmly on the wearer, with Velcro pull-tabs to adjust the fit.
