10 of the Best Women’s Mountain Bike Shorts

Dress those mountain legs in something functional and flattering

As far as women’s kit goes, shorts seem to be the most difficult to get right. However, with brands producing more options, it’s becoming easier to find that perfect pair.

Baggy, long, short, tight, relaxed, thick, thin… we all have our preference for clothing that fits us just how we like, while still wanting to look good on the trails.

Up until recently, we women have been faced with a serious lack of selection for riding kit, in fact many of us have resorted to men’s wear, and even children’s. Thankfully, this all seems to be changing with an increasing number of brands broadening their once limited selection.

We’ve rounded up some of our favourite women’s MTB shorts on offer at the moment…

Madison Women’s DWR Shorts

Madison Clothing has one of the most extensive ranges of women’s MTB around. Offering top quality apparel which is durable, even after miles of fun with the British weather.

TWC 20 Champion Brands: Madison

The DWR shorts are hard wearing and can handle a lot of trail abuse. Waterproof, windproof and pretty much bombproof, these shorts are tough but surprisingly stretchy. Without movement restriction, these shorts have zipped vents down the sides of the leg, to allow for temperature control, and adjustable tabs at the waist to dial in that fit.

Colours: Aqua/black – Red/black

Flare Roost Downhill Shorts

British clothing company Flare has been on the scene styling women’s MTB apparel for years. Founded by avid biker and fashion enthusiast, Hannah Myers, Flare continually meets the needs and wants of the female shredder.

Flare’s Roost shorts are tough wearing, but extremely comfortable to ride in. Multi-way stretch fabric ensures you can manoeuvre around the bike with ease, and the considerate ventilated fabric keeps you cool throughout.

With an adjustable wrap-over waist fastener, these shorts won’t be slipping or sliding anywhere… just your bike will be.

SHREDLY MTB Long

US based women’s MTB brand, SHREDLY, has made a colourful splash in the industry over the last two years. With great success for their MTB short, SHREDLY has recently launched a range of active leggings and caps to complete the look.

Lightweight and fitting, these shorts are designed to fit the female body with contoured lines and consideration for a lower waist line. Discrete vents in the legs keep you sufficiently cool, even during those rare British heat waves. With a wide range in colours, designs and sizes, it’ll be hard for you to not find the perfect pair.

The MTB Long are our favourite for adding on a few inches in length. However, if you prefer a shorter style, SHREDLY has the MTB Short which is 3″ less on the leg.

The Demo DH Race shorts look great. They are slimming and non-restrictive with a great eye-catching design. The silicone grip waist band keeps them in place with your chamois pants, whilst deterring mud from rolling down into your bum!

Another popular brand in the women’s MTB industry is Troy Lee Designs with their extensive range of women’s clothing and protection. Each year we see their women’s division growing, and we love it.

The Skyline Evil shorts are certainly feminine with their bright patterned pink design, but they’re a fierce sort of girly.

With a stretchy polyester and spandex combination, these shorts will move with you as you rip down those trails. Large mesh panels help regulate your temperature, and discretely zipped pockets store your bits n’ bobs safely.
