We caught up with mountain biking legend Rachel Atherton at the recent launch of the 2014 GT Factory Racing Team. She’s got an incredible list of cycling achievements (including World Cup Champion and World Champion. Twice!) In 2013 she gained mainstream recognition, winning BT Sports Action Woman of the Year.
She’s also down to earth, friendly and funny.
What’s your earliest memory on a bicycle?
I think it’s going out riding with my brothers, with my rabbit in the basket of my bike, to watch them do dirt jumps. I wanted to join in – with the rabbit still in the basket! Affy told me there was a snake, I think to get me to leave the rabbit at home…
What’s your favourite song?
Dressed for Success by Roxette
How would your friends describe you in three words?
I don’t have any friends! [laughs] Er – I guess my brothers would describe me as grumpy (Gee), a star (Affy), and manic – probably both of them!
Do you have any hidden talents that we should know about?
No.
What’s your favourite colour?
White.
Other than your cycling achievements, what is your proudest moment?
Buying my first house!
