Health Hits: Cherry Chocolate Recovery Drink

A healthy and balanced diet is essential for your body to function at its best. It’s even more important to get the right balance of nutrients and vitamins if you’re training.

Cherries are an often overlooked fruit. They come in a variety of forms: fresh, dried and glazed, but fresh Montmorency tart cherries have a number of benefits for your body.

The little red fruity orbs are jam packed full of anthocyanins which have been linked to reducing cholesterol, inflammation and body fat.

It’s really easy to introduce a handful of cherries into your daily diet, either by eating them raw, or by including them in a tasty recipe, like this Cherry Chocolate Recovery Drink.

You’ll Need…

Total Time: 10 minutes

This recipe is super easy to make, takes very little time and it tastes delicious. This is the ideal recovery drink for when you get in from a good training session.

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 tablespoons Montmorency tart cherry juice concentrate
  • 1/2 ounce dark chocolate, melted
  • 4 ounces chocolate milk
  • 2 tablespoons plain yoghurt
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons maple syrup

Directions

This is the ultimate faff-free recipe. Simply melt the chocolate in saucepan over low heat, or in microwave for a few seconds. Ensure it’s fully melted through, but don’t let it boil.

Once the chocolate is melted, take it off the heat.

Add the rest of the ingredients into the melted chocolate: Montmorency tart cherry juice concentrate, chocolate milk, yoghurt, melted chocolate and maple syrup.

Mix all the ingredients thoroughly. You can use a blender, whisk or just old fashioned elbw grease.

Once it’s all mixed into a smooth consistency, allow it to chill in the fridge before serving. Enjoy!
