Women haven’t always had the best deal when it comes to representation in the media – that’s just as applicable in the cycling industry and it’s the topic that will be discussed at an upcoming even in London.
There’s a history in cycling of brands getting it completely wrong and using raunchy images of women to attract men and alienate potential female customers. Some marketeers are starting to learn that it just won’t get them anywhere, and thankfully realising that it’s a fundamentally wrong approach – but others are still making huge, almost unforgivable errors.
The London Bike Kitchen are hosting another of their ever popular ‘Women and Gender Variant’ nights on Wednesday February 3, with a panel discussing the way the media depicts women who ride.
The event will take place at Look Mum No Hands! (so you’re guaranteed amazing coffee and cake!) on Old Street, and will start at 6.30pm.
Keynote speakers will include journalists Adele Mitchell and Laura Laker – both have been TWC contributors in the past as well as writing for a host of other mainstream and cycling specific titles.
The evening will be chaired by VeloCityGirl blogger, Jools Walker – a well known figure in women’s cycling and a key member of the Vulpine Clothing team.
