Do Cyclists Need to be Flexible?
The Venus is Northwave’s mid-weight jersey from their autumn and winter range and retails for £70.
There are a lot of mid-weight jerseys out there and to some extent the attributes of the Venus are shared by many similar jerseys; it’s easy to layer up or down to accommodate for the ever changing weather and operates as an outer or under layer. It’s been a great addition to my cycling wardrobe and my jersey of choice so far this autumn.
I really like the fit of the Venus Long Sleeve Jersey both in respect to the cut but also the properties of the material. It’s made from North Wave’s Carezza Soft Microsense Fabric. No, that means nothing to me either but what I can say is that it has a nice soft feel and enough stretch to give a good fit but it doesn’t over stretch and bag like some others I’ve tried, particularly when I’ve loaded up the pockets. So far the material hasn’t snagged either which is another problem I’ve noticed with similar tops.
Other plus points are the three well-sized rear pockets and full-length zip. On the downside I have noticed the fabric becoming damper than some other similar jerseys which has made me question how well it wicks moisture. Having said that, the Venus Long Sleeve Jersey seems to dry out quickly and I haven’t had any problems getting too cold because of it. Fit-wise I’m a UK size 8-10 and the small fits me nicely.
The design is really simple, giving it a smart appearance. The styles available are in black, white with black highlights and bright pink. The jersey also has reflective highlights on the jersey but they’re pretty minimal so I’m not convinced they’d help you being seen.
Pros
– Good fit
– Material holds up well to cycling stresses
Cons
– Questionable moisture wicking
