Reigning cyclo-cross champion, Nikki Brammeier, defends her title shortly returning to the race scene after suffering a broken back.
The 30 year old athlete, who rides for Boels Dolmans CT, was involved in a race collision with Helen Wyman during the first lap of the European Cyclo-cross Championship last October. Wyman sustained a broken collar bone, cuts and bruises, whilst Brammeier’s injuries resulted in a fractured sacrum.

With five weeks out for recovery, Brammeier returned to racing in December to scoop up 4th place at Overijse. Since then, she’s been going strength to strength as she took the National championship win at the weekend.
“I’m super happy as I really needed a win today and although Helen [Wyman] isn’t here it was still going to be a hard day and I needed a perfect ride,” Nikki Brammeier following the win
Brammeier opened a gap in the first lap of the 40 minute race, and maintained pace throughout. Without any struggle or signs of discomfort, she sailed across the muddy finish line in spectacular fashion.
