When High Street Fashion meets Cycling
There isn’t much to criticize about the Vulpine Women’s Softshell Jacket: from the cut to the feel of the fabric, it was hitting the nail on the head from the instant you looked at it. And the waterproof element is incredible.
The inner lining with its attention to detail including a pull out splash protector and trimmed edges has a luxurious feel to it. The breathable underarms are a great touch – especially in these Autumn days when there is just a slight chill in the air. The two practical pockets on the back are both sealable – one with a zip, which is perfect for your phone and one more easy to open with just a popper button is useful for storing a snack on the go.
The attention to detail is particularly notable in the cut of the Women’s Softshell Jacket. With previous cycling gear I have owned I haven’t felt particularly feminine: a loose cut high visibility jacket doesn’t exactly scream ‘sexy’. The soft shell, in comparison, felt very flattering as it nips in nicely at the waist and with a longer back section, it means you are decently covered even when leaning over the handlebars. The front pockets have the same cosy lining as the inside – perfect for a quick warm up of your hands when waiting at the lights! The sleeves slip down to a nice tight fit around your wrists which block out any wind draft as you are pedalling along.
When tested out in the rain, the water quite literally slips off the jacket and instantly dries. I don’t think I have ever been so impressed by the waterproofing in something!
Whilst the grey looks sleek and makes it great for commuting (who really wants to be in their office gear with a garish yellow high vis jacket!), it does leave me questioning my visibility. There are two small reflective strips on the shoulders of the Women’s Softshell Jacket but nothing on the back, so make sure you pack your lights as the darker evenings draw in.
Another minor query is the small zipable pocket on the right sleeve. I can kind of see the thinking behind it as being useful for quick access but actually placing anything in the sleeve is relatively annoying as it knocks around on your arm as you cycle.
