Review: Cafe du Cycliste Henriette Jersey

Arrive at your destination in style with Cafe du Cycliste's Henriette Jersey. Words by Leyanne Jenkins.

60 Seconds with Tiffany Cromwell

If it’s style and looks you desire then Cafe du Cycliste is for you. The Henriette Jersey talks of yesteryear tennis chic and encapsulates the cut that is needed for cycling. The gingham hem in the collar makes this a great piece on the bike while the classic stripes make it perfect for strolling into a restaurant after a cycle across town.

The Henriette Jersey’s attention to detail and the construction of this product are equal to items of a much more premium price. Even the packaging is well thought out in a handy and attractive reusable bag. Dive in beyond the superb style and overall looks though and you soon find a downfall with this product, the 100% polyester fabric construction does take a little of the shine off this top.

Thankfully the polyester at least has a very soft feel. On warm days I found the jersey to be a little clammy feeling and not so breathable. But that said, it should be good for the cooler days in autumn. The internal detail in the Henriette Jersey shines as well as the external with all seams beautifully finished in flat overlock construction.

When I got a little warm I was also able to reduce this thanks to the three quarter zip, which I must say is a great zip – simply flick the lockable zip tab up and pull on the corner of the collar and it will undo. This is a great safety feature in my eyes, the jersey can be undone while on the move with just one hand.

The pockets allow ease of use with angled edges to get your hands in. The external middle zip pocket is a handy place to store credit cards, cash and a mobile phone, providing it’s no bigger than an iPhone.  The reflective strips dividing the pockets add to the detail.

I fully understand the reference to the 1950’s cheeky logo but sadly the patch that portrays a lady astride her bike drinking from a lofted water bottle doesn’t quite work for me.

Verdict

Café du Cycliste have created a lifestyle cycling jersey within the Henriette style that is as happy on the bike as off in a social setting. So if you’re the sort of rider that loves commuting and simply wishes to blend in when you arrive at your destination, then this should form a perfect part of your cycling wardrobe!
