Next up is the new for 2013, iJ.intermediate_S7 women’s long sleeve jersey. Assos say this jersey should be worn in temperatures ranging from 14-22°C. A great option for late summer, early autumn. Similar to the short sleeve jersey, it’s rather figure-hugging, so be cautious with sizing. Where possible you may want to try before you buy.

Removing our size medium jersey from its Assos musette, you can instantly tell the level of thought, detail and design that’s gone into this piece. Every material picked and seam stitched has been carefully chosen and constructed.

Highlights include the fabric – both front panels, either side of the full length zipper (more on this later) are made from ‘airBlock’ fabric, to keep the wind out. It’s shell like on the outside, with soft ribbed material on the inside. The side panels, back and arm pits are constructed from a lightweight mesh fabric to aid ventilation. Finally, the material used on the arms is slightly thicker to keep your extremities warm. Assos have clearly spent a great deal of time developing these fabrics for each area of the jersey, it’ll be interesting to see how they perform in the test.

Other areas of note, to aid comfort, include ‘garages’ at the neck and hem of the jersey to house the full length zipper. There’s no chance of chafing on the chin, or bobbling your expensive shorts here. The collar is constructed from one panel of material so there are no seams to bother you, just slinky spandex. The cuffs have thick elastic hems, or as Assos call them ‘WristWrap’, which help to keep the elements out.

The pockets are similar to the short sleeve jersey in the fact that they have the side opening on the left and right rear pockets. This time however, on the centre pocket, there’s a zipper to keep valuables safe. Finally, the rear hem has the thick elastic combined with silicone dots to keep you covered and the front has a thinner elasticated waist band with continuous line of silicone to keep everything in its place.
