This summer, the eagerly anticipated BikePark Wales opens. For the mountain bikers out there, this is definitely something to be excited about.
The park will be the UK’s first large commercial bike park – a wonderland of trails, jumps, rocks, drops – basically pretty much everything you could ask for.
Graded trails from beginner right up to the pro mean there’s something for everyone, and gives you the opportunity to up your skills, push yourself and progress. There’s even an uplift service to take you and your bike to the top of the hill, saving some energy for the descents.
BikePark Wales – Episode 1: Origins
There’s a bike shop, carrying Trek, Orange, Fox and IXS – hopefully with lots for us women in there too! They also have a demo fleet and rental bikes on site, which is perfect if you want to try out something new, or take the family for a ride.
The menu for the café is making us drool, promising homemade stews, tagines and Pieminster pies. We’re looking forward to checking out the cake offering too.
Located in Merthyr Tydfil, Wales, the grand opening is on the 24th August 2013, and bookings for the uplift service are open online now.
If you want to whet your appetite for what’s to come, check out the first video in a series of three that follows the making of BikePark Wales. It’s been a long process – the project first started in 2009, and work on the trails commenced in 2013.
Since then, an intrepid and determined bunch of organisers and volunteers have been toiling away to bring you the physical manifestation of fun. We can’t wait to ride it.
