VeloVixen Champion Women’s Cycling and Pick Up Prestigious Award

BikeBiz awards result demonstrates confidence in women's cycling

Women’s only cycling retailer VeloVixen picked up the gong for ‘Best Online Retailer’ at the Bike Biz awards last week, representing a huge vote of confidence in women’s retail.

The website, launched by Phil and Liz Bingham in 2012, was up against giants such as Wiggle CRC, Tredz and Sigma Sport – as well as fellow women’s retailer CycleChic.

The awards were given out at the Excel Centre, alongside the London Bike Show, on Thursday February 16.

VeloVixen were nominated as ‘Best Online Retailer’ in the 2016 TWC awards, and won voted Female Specific Retailer of the Year at the 2015 event.

The Oxford based retailer received an investment of £500,000 last year, money that they’ve put into marketing and events such as their highly popular women’s cycling hub at the Birmingham Cycle Show.

Operations Manager Fran Whyte picks up the award

Speaking after the awards, co-founder Liz Bingham said: “We couldn’t be more proud to win this award. It’s a reflection of the hard work we’ve put in since 2012, and of the continued momentum within women’s cycling. It’s especially gratifying to win a vote against mainstream retailers that we have such respect for.”

She added: “Having increased our sales in 2016 by over 60%, we’re now focused on spending 2017 continuing to build our profile within the cycling sector. Ultimately we want to ensure that we’re the most natural place for all female cyclists to come for a fantastic range of great kit.”

VeloVixen believe this is the first time a female specific retailer has won a mainstream award in the cycling sector.
