Review: Dare2b Interchange Convertible Short

Jennifer hit the trails to test her brand new convertible shorts!

A great pair of general purpose “technical” shorts that look good, are practical and packable as well as being compatible with D2b’s padded cycling shorts.

The Dare2b Interchange Convertible Shorts are a nice, non-grungy colour and come in a loose fit with mid-length leg. They are a flattering fit and can be cinched in at the waist with a Nylon drawcord as well as being compatible with D2b’s basic padded cycling shorts — attaching via “interactive” loops on the waistband.

Black stretchy fabric panels on the inside of the leg and across the lower back are designed to allow stretch where needed, but also help to break up the pink colour and make the shorts look stylish.

On the front of the shorts there is a decent-sized zip pocket on the right side and a matching Velcro-closing pocket on the left hand side. Above these are shallow front pockets which do not seem to serve much purpose, but do give the shorts a trendy ‘combat’ look. the two rear pockets are generous, with enough room to carry gloves, an inner tube or phone.

There is a hint of reflective fabric in the logo and brand name, but otherwise you’ll have to hope that drivers spot the bright pink shorts for their colour alone; they make a pleasant alternative to orange / yellow high vis clothing.

The fabric feels durable and is water resistant, and they certainly add a layer of protections on top of a base layer or padded shorts. A zip fly is topped with an old-school button, rather than a popper, so even after a lengthy cafe stop, the button should hold tight. Despite standing out for there fuchsia colouring, they are pleasantly short on branding and logos.

Pros

Cheery, high vis colour

Nice shape with mid-length leg

Can be used for other outdoor activities as gel pad not built in

Cons

Two small front pockets don’t really serve a purpose

Verdict

A nice pair of multi-purpose, summer shorts that look the part out on the trail, pack and wash well and brighten up your look.

Price: £50, available from Dare 2b.
