After requesting an ICEdot crash sensor at Interbike 2013 it’s finally arrived in the Postman’s bag. Here are my first impressions:
- It has a sleek design and feels as though it’s built well. The ICEdot crash sensor mounts to your helmet and connects to a personalised profile via an app on your phone.
- It is a clever, life-saving idea. If you were to have an accident, the device triggers a phone app it’s linked to, sounding an alarm and initiating an emergency countdown. If you’re unable to stop the countdown clock on your phone, the app will send out GPS coordinates of where you are to your emergency contacts via a text so they can come to your rescue.
- It is tiny! For something that could essentially save my life, this crash detecting device is incredibly small, about the size of a £2 coin.
- It does not include a user manual or instructions on where to find one. Bearing in mind you have to link to an app on your phone, the cylindrical package is devoid of any information. It does include the crash sensor, brief instructions, a helmet mount, some stickers, a couple of zip ties and a micro USB charging cable.
