Punishing climbs that go on for hours, terrifying descents, and hours and hours in the saddle. Taking on one Alpine mountain is hard enough, imagine how challenging it would be to take on nearly all of them? The inspirational Sophie Radcliffe did just that, recently completing the world’s first Alpine Coast to Coast challenge.
Setting off from Trieste in Slovenia, she cycled 1669km along the length of the Alps, finally reaching Monaco at the end of August. As if that wasn’t challenging enough, along the way she also climbed to the summit of the highest mountains in each of the 8 alpine countries as she went. All together, that’s a total of 45, 350 meters, the equivalent of climbing Mount Everest more than 5 times.
Passing through Italy, Slovenia, Austria, Liechtenstein, Germany, Switzerland, France and Monaco, her husband Charley was her companion and fellow adventurer throughout, driving the support vehicle and joining her for the mountain climbs. Together they are motivated by the love of ‘physical endurance challenges and adventure.’
Finished the #alpineCoast2Coast at 15:34 today. Blows my mind how. Thanks so much for your support! pic.twitter.com/3cTIEFetPB
