Lizzie Armitstead is one of the most talented road riders in the world. We caught up with her at the recent launch of women’s cycling retailer Bella Velo to find out what makes her tick.
Describe yourself in three words…Honest, stubborn and loyal
What is your first memory of being on a bike?Learning to take my stabilisers in the back garden with my Dad. I fell over a couple of times.
What is your favourite route to ride?Where I live in Monaco, there is a really nice route up to Col de Turini, the time flies by, you can climb all day and descend all the way home.
If you could go on a casual ride with anyone in the world dead or alive who would it be?The Queen. I’d love to get the gossip.
Do you have any hidden talents?No I am so lucky that cycling found me because I am talentless. I am useless at cooking, although I am a really good cleaner.
Do you have any guilty pleasures?Crap TV – Xfactor that kind of thing
Off the bike what has been your proudest moment to date?Winning my Olympic Silver, that was amazing.
Who is your biggest inspiration?My family inspires me to be a good person. But on the bike, nobody really!
What are your three favourite things in life?Family, food and sunshine.
