Beauty and the bike: the make-up musette

Long wearing, sweat proof and easy to wear: we’ve tracked down the make up kit that’ll go the extra mile with you.

Moisturiser

When it comes to moisturising pre-ride, go as bare as you dare.  Heavy, oily creams can cause your make up to slide off, so switch to a tinted gel sunscreen and leave it at that:  Heliocare Advanced Gelcream Colour spf50 (£28) is brilliant.

Primer

If you like to wear base then start with primer as it’ll really help lock your make up in place: Mac Prep + Prime Face Protect spf50 (£22.50) has a light formula and is oil free and invisible.

Foundation

Pick a foundation designed for long wear and use it sparingly. Estee Lauder Double Wear Light Makeup (£27.50) and Double Wear Concealer (£20) are formulated to last up to 15 hours (okay for longer rides then!) smudge resistant and won’t ‘melt’ through heat or humidity.

Eyeliner

A quick slick of a waterproof eye pencil will define your eyes: Daniel Sandler Velvet Waterproof Eyeliner (£9.25) was developed specifically to avoid ‘panda eyes’ and can be worn as a fine line or blended for a softer look.

Mascara

Waterproof mascara is a must – but it’s notorious for being tricky to remove. Thank goodness then for Clinique Lash Power Mascara Long-Wearing Formula (£16), which manages the miraculous feat of being rain, sweat and tears proof as well as removable with warm water.

Blusher

Daniel Sandler Watercolour Fluid Blusher (£14.50) has cult beauty status and while it isn’t waterproof it’s certainly long wearing. The watery-texture means you can brush it on and blend for a natural look. Once dry, it stays put for hours.

Lipstick

If you’re riding to the office – or just fancy sporting a high-viz lip colour – then reach for Stila All Day Liquid Lipstick (£15), a creamy-matte lipstick that delivers bold, long lasting colour (there are ten hot shades to choose from!) for up to six hours wear. Enriched with Vitamin E and avocado oil to hydrate and soften your lips at the same time.

Lip balm

If a natural lip is more your thing and you want heavy-duty protection from the elements then reach for a tube of Lanolips 101 Ointment (£11.22). Made from ultra-pure medical grade lanolin and 100% natural, it is a glossy little wonder worker for dry skin and lips.
