10 fun filled cycling events suitable for the whole family

Finding a cycling event that is suitable for the whole family can be tricky. Here are 10 that will fit the bill. Now all that’s left to do is choose which ones you are going to do as they all look like so much fun! 

Manchester to Liverpool Bike Ride
15 May
This promises to be a great day out for the family. The route will take you along the Trans Pennine Trail, setting off from from the heart of Salford Quays.The trail will thread its way through the Cheshire countryside and the shadows of the historic Manchester Ship Canal.

In addition to a 40-mile route, there will also be a new 55-mile route for those who want a bit more of a challenge. And best of all, when you reach the finish line on the banks of the Mersey you will be treated to live music, refreshments and a whole lot of fun!

Scootathon @ Cycletta
Various Dates
This fun mini triathlon with run alongside the Cycletta events that will run across the country on various dates in 2014. Children between the ages of four and eight will scoot, bike and run to finish line.

The event begins on scooter, then it’s into transition to pick up the bike before finishing with a run. All you need is a helmet, scooter and bike and off you go!

Dinotour
15 June
Celebrate Father’s Day with a fun filled day out for all the family. The Dinotour is a bike ride which follows the Bristol to Bath railway path from Whitehall to Bath. The distance you travel is up to you, but the more clues you follow, the greater your score and therefore the greater your chance of winning a fantastic prize!

You just need to turn up on the day to collect your free score card. There will be stalls along the route. Face painting and free bike checks will also be available.

South Wales Bike Ride
22 June
For over 25 year this popular bike ride has been providing a fun day out for all the family. Set in scenic South Wales, you can choose from a 12, 28 or 46 mile option. The routes are fully marshalled and medical assistance is on hand throughout ensuring your loved one are in safe hands. The start and finish line will be at the recreation ground in Swansea where no doubt there will be a lively, fun-filled atmosphere.

The event is organised by the British Heart Foundation. Entry costs £10 per adult and £5 per child, you are also asked to fundraise for the event.

Cycle Together Sandringham
23 June
With four scenic routes to choose from this event caters for all abilities from beginners to experienced sportive cyclists. The 10 and 20 mile routes are brilliant for families as they wind their way through quiet roads and picturesque villages, starting and finishing in the historic Sandringham Estate.

Great Cycle Manchester
29 June 2014
This mass participation event offers three separate distances, catering for a wide range of ages and ability. The course is a 13-mile city based circuit within Manchester that is completely closed to all traffic.

The start line, lapping point and finish are all situated in the Ethiad Campus, home to Manchester City Football Club so it will make for some fantastic spectating. The event is open to anyone over the age of three. Kids from 8 onwards can enter the 13-mile on their own bike while over 16s can enter any of the 13, 26 or 52 mile routes.

Orbital Cycling Festival
26-27 July 2014
The Orbital Festival is a true celebration of all things cycling and is a fun-filled weekend for all the family. From cycling races and meanders to evening entertainment, it has it all.

Over the course of the weekend there will a whole host of activities to keep you entertained. From family ride-outs to the bike jumble you will not be stuck with kids moaning that they are bored. There is even a ‘bling your bike’ competition and balance bikes for under-5s on the pump track.

This is the perfect opportunity to get the family together and take a spin around London. With an 8-mile traffic free route mapped out, the event will offer not only great fun but will be completely safe too.
Aimed at all ages and abilities, there is no excuse not to get involved.

Big Bike Bash

This is definitely one of the UK’s top family friendly mountain bike, beer and music festivals! Now in its sixth year, it is jam-packed with three days of bike filled madness catering for all ages and abilities.

There is everything from races to BBQs, children’s discos, bouncy castles and even a lake jump! All of your needs will be looked after – there is a spacious, family-friendly campsite, lots of food options, shower and toilet facilities and lots more. So all you need to worry about is staying awake long enough for the live music each evening after an action packed day!

New Forest

This beautiful ride through the New Forest, offers a wide range of distance options including a 15 mile family friendly route. Taking place on forest tracks the route is not suitable for road bikes but is perfect for a family spin as it is completely traffic free.

All of the routes start and finish in Brockenhurst.
