Cycling Recovery: Yoga Sequence For Mobility

Montmorency Cherries and yoga guru Abi Carver share the best yoga routine for improving mobility

As much as we absolutely adore cycling – we all know a long, hilly or fast (or all three!) ride can leave us feeling sore the following day.

Sometimes it doesn’t matter how fit you are or how often you ride, loss of mobility during your recovery period happens to us all.

We’ve teamed up with Cherries Montmorency to bring you a series of yoga videos that are designed to help you reduce muscle tension,  protect your joints and build your stamina.

Things you can do to recover outside of stretching…

There are many ways to help recovery after a day of impactful exercise, to prevent pain and stiffness on the following day. As well as trying this vinyasa yoga routine, athletes often try and consume foods that aid recovery from the inside. People who drink cherry juice after endurance training, experience less inflammation and oxidative stress compared to those who didn’t.

How will this yoga video help?

The yoga routine below from Abi Carver, uses a type of yoga called  vinyāsa or flow. The quick transitions, while more challenging, is great for increasing movement in your joints and tight muscles.

“The workouts are based on sun salutations, moon salutations and lunge salutation variations that take the body through a diverse set of movement patterns” explains Abi Carver on her Yoga15 website.

“Moving through the poses circulates synovial fluid to the joints which allows the bones to glide over each other without friction. This fluid also delivers nutrients and oxygen to the cartilage, which unlike other body tissue, does not have its own blood supply. In each sequence we move through every plane of motion, carefully and with control.”

In addition to the series of yoga videos, we also have tickets to give away to the Om Yoga Show in London later this month. To enter, visit our Facebook page and comment on the pinned post at the top of the page. Alternatively, follow us on twitter and tweet us with #choosecherries
