The Pro-Tec City Lite Helmet is a skate inspired helmet aimed at the urban cruiser who is looking to set themself apart from the more traditional commuter getup. With its fuller coverage, extensive inside padding and adjustable ratchet wheel, it is hands down the most comfortable cycling helmet I’ve ever worn.
There’s something quite comforting about the fuller coverage that this style of helmet offers, especially during the winter months when the office commute descends into a constant battle against the British weather.
While the minimal venting is perfect for the chillier months, I can envisage that come the summer I could be in for a somewhat sweaty head. But the jury is still out on that one.
I’ve always found that these skate style helmets tend to err on the heavier side, so I was pleasantly surprised when I laid my hands on the Pro-Tec City Lite helmey to find that is was super light.
The helmet’s two-tone design is undeniably pink. Not normally a colour I’d go for, but due to its boldness, contrasting red chinstrap and matte finish, I’m totally sold on it. One note on the matte finish however is that when coupled with my somewhat clumsy nature, it does have a tendency to mark easily from everyday knocks when off the bike, so be warned that it might not stay in pristine condition for long.
Along with its unique style, for me the standout feature of the Pro-Tec City Lite helmet is the built in rear light with four different light settings. During the recent dreary winter mornings and early dark nights, I’ve found that this light, along with the helmet’s vibrant colour, adds another welcome level to my visibility when out on the hectic roads.
– Unique style
– Marks easily
– Minimal ventilation
