An inventor with a point to prove has created a new bike lock which will release gas, causing a thief to vomit, if they try to slice through it.
Daniel Idzkowski decided to take action after he and his friends had their bikes stolen ‘over and over’ again, pointing out that with the right tools ‘any bike lock can be destroyed in under a minute’.

Seething from the repeated attacks, Idzkowski worked with co-inventor Yves Perrenoud to create a D-lock with a hollow chamber which holds three pressurised gases. When someone cuts through the ‘SKUNKLOCK’ lock by about 30 per cent, the gas is released.
The pair have only tested the device on themselves and volunteers so far – but Idzkowski reports that: “The chemicals are so disgusting they induce vomit in the majority of cases, and elicit an instinctive response to run away immediately.” He’s likened the symptoms to that of pepper spray and says the gas caused 99 per cent of potential perpetrators to vom.
SKUNKLOCK is available to pre-order on Indiegogo at the moment for $109 a piece, and so far has reached 45 per cent of its target.
