The issue
The bikes that have been recalled are those that have disc brakes and use a standard internal cam quick release lever. The problem arises when this lever is open as it rotates far enough for it to enter the disc rotor which would cause the wheel to lock and some potentially dangerous consequences should it ever come open whilst cycling.
Trek Bikes issued a recall in April after three riders experienced injuries when their quick release came loose.
Which bikes are at risk?
The 17 brands at risk are listed here and apparently it is likely to be the bikes at the cheaper end of the scale. There are still brands using the same quick release design yet to publish a recall.

What you can do?
A company called Quick Release Recall has published a video explaining what to do if you think your bike is at risk. The brands listed above will be supplying quick releases free of charge for affected bikes in the US but we are unsure if this applies to the UK too at this point.
