We all know the uncomfortable feeling when we hit a bump in the road or go over a particularly uneven bit of road-surface. Your shoulders are rudely jolted and your whole body takes the brunt of the shock. RedShift Sports, a company that creates products which combine the elements of cycling and mechanical engineering, have come up with a solution to solve that issue.

Launching today on Kickstarter, the ShockStop is an adjustable-stiffness, shock-absorbing suspension stem designed specifically for road riding. It improves ride quality and comfort by isolating the rider’s body from “bumps, shocks, and road buzz”.

It works by fitting onto “virtually all bikes” so everyone from performance cyclists to recreational riders and commuters can find the perfect fit.

The idea came about when founders of RedShift identified a need to prevent riding from becoming an uncomfortable activity. They explained:

Bumps and rough roads also rob you of speed, cause a loss of control, and over time they can even lead to chronic injury.

RedShift say they believe that bikes should be comfortable and that riding one should be a fun experience as opposed to exposing our bodies to all the impacts and vibrations that the road often throws at us.
