Review: Trase Nordlys Women’s Bib Shorts

They have an elegant look and flattering cut, but the Trase Nordlys bib shorts do the job for Cathy?

Tips for Winter Cycling Nutrition

I find bib shorts very upsetting. The look of them, ghastly stretchy Borat-mankini style horrors. The fact you have to get naked to attend to any calls of nature. The awkward way your breasts are always either slightly squished, uncomfortably jammed together or artificially separated and forced relentlessly towards your armpits. I like my breasts, people and the thought of manhandling them into bib shorts isn’t pretty, so I tend to avoid them.

But I can’t deny the streamlined silhouette and comfort of bibs any longer, and so I hauled on the these Trase Nordlys bib shorts. I liked the look of the 6cm leg gripper in a contrasting colour that I would probably call ‘beige’ and the brand’s website dubs ‘cognac’. I also liked the look of the chamois, which Trase says was developed after detailed study into ‘the movement of women’. I will pause for a moment to allow you to contemplate just what that particular job might entail. I joke, it’s all done on computers these days.

Moving on, they look nice-ish. The breast question is circumnavigated with a mesh strip that goes between your girls and then splits over your head. Over a sports bra, the strap, which is soft and giving, isn’t uncomfortable. My breasts, already marmalised by the sports bra, didn’t protest and neither did I.

I currently ride an Eastway R.01 carbon road bike. It’s a men’s bike and whilst it’s a thing of beauty and wonder, the saddle could only have been invented by a man. It’s a razor-sharp instrument of torture. In the Trase shorts it was a cushioned armchair. These Trase Nordlys bib shorts are seriously comfortable. I cranked out nearly 50 miles on a super-hot sunny day and not one single incident of chafing, pinching, bunching, picking or plugging was experienced. It was a breezy ride on a hot sunny day.

I love these bibs. They fit me like a second skin. With the Trase Nordlys Jersey over the top they look elegant and the cut is flattering, no cutting-in and no bulging over. I feel a bit superhero in them and I really, really like riding in them. Well worth the money!
