Reviewed: MET Trenta 3K Carbon Road Helmet

Last year, MET Helmets marked their 30th birthday with the launch of the MET Trenta 3K Carbon road helmet. Released to the masses shortly before Christmas, the Trenta is now available on buy so we decided to give it a go.

There was a great deal of hype surrounding this new model largely owing to its lightweight design, improved aero capabilities and the extensive research and development which went into its production. With MET’s philosophy to manufacturer cycling helmets that are ever “getting faster, lighter and more comfortable“, this helmet inspired high expectations.

The construction of the MET Trenta uses a carbon’s elastic modulus which has allowed MET to reduce the density of the expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam by 20%, without affecting its capacity to absorb energy. The outer shell is formed with an in-mould polycarbonate design with an EPS liner and a 3K Carbon cage embedded in as well.

Across the helmet, there are 19 vents integrated into the striking parallel ‘rib’ design. They’re linked from the centre of the helmet by a carbon cage embedded into the liner which makes the overall helmet considerably lighter than it’s market rivals, improves ventilation and reduces the effects of drag by up to 7%, which is 3% more than the MET Manta.

The fit system uses Safe-T Orbital technology with Air Lite straps and an adjustable divider. The inner Air Mesh comfort pads are removable and can be hand washed quite easily.

MET Trenta 3K Carbon Road Helmet: Verdict

The MET Trenta 3K Carbon road helmet has been designed for nothing short of professional performance, and that’s exactly what it offers.

It’s lightweight, at just 219g, the Trenta is around 50g – 60g lighter than other popular road cycling helmets on the market. It feels almost like a second skin with its low profile and aero-focused design, making it super comfortable to wear.

The directional ribbed casing allowed airflow to continuously circulate throughout, keeping me feeling pretty cool and comfortable. Despite being packed with tech, the Trenta is wonderfully elegant and simplistic in aesthetics, understated even, which makes it even more desirable to minimalists like myself.

However, the downside to these great points is the price for it all. At £265, this is not the most affordable of helmets, not by a long-shot. However, there is a MET Trenta “classic” model which comes in at £220.
